With a Little Help From My Friends

Image
There’s No Personal Defense w/o Personal Development The Beatles had it right when they wrote  With a Little Help from My Friends.  Personal defense and growth is much easier when you're not going at it alone. The PeaceWalker approach adds a dash of clarity, skill and courage to your Life. PeaceWalkers aren’t just random individuals stumbling through life. Oh no, we belong to a fellowship of everyday people committed to protecting life, leading with love, and growing stronger with each step. Much like that Beatles song suggests, we get by—and thrive—because we have each other. Whether it’s learning to manage conflict or staying motivated through constant training, we lean on our fellow PeaceWalkers. Going through the good, bad and ugly with like minded people who have your six, makes all the difference. So, the next time life throws a curveball, remember: with a little help from your friends, you won’t just get by—you’ll lead from the front, stronger and more connected ...

What's Wrong Man?!

Your Phone Rings… You look down, and it’s one of your close friends. You wonder why they’re  calling out of the blue  as you tap that green button to talk. Then you hear them say… “Hey…I was just sitting here and wanted to give you a quick call to tell you I love, honor, and appreciate you, brother. You mean a lot to me, man.” If you got that call today… how would you react? If you’re like pretty much everyone on this planet, your first response would probably be… “What’s wrong?! You ok?! Is everything alright?!” Now, here’s the sad,  brutal truth:  When someone like you gets a call like that, your mind instantly flips to  crisis mode. You assume something’s wrong—that he’s in a dark pit, spiraling toward the edge, maybe even on the  brink of something really bad. But what if that wasn’t the case? What if that call wasn’t a cry for help,  but an opportunity? An opportunity to  break the cycle of silence  we’ve all been living in. We ca...

This is the New Super Power

Difficult Conversations Yesterday I was having a great discussion with one of my students about the art of difficult conversations. The topic revolved around how many people (and organizations) avoid having them. (Much to their detriment.) Let’s face it, difficult conversations have always been, well… Difficult! So, it’s no wonder why people have a hard time with them. Compile that with our modern technology that has almost reinvented the way we communicate with one another and you have the recipe for making mountains out of molehills and causing a lot of stress due to miss or non-communication altogether. Yes it’s no huge mystery that… In Today’s Fast-Paced World… People are finding it increasingly difficult to engage in these tough conversations. (Let me get academic here a second…) A 2023 study by the Pew Research Center found that 54% of Americans avoid discussing sensitive topics, fearing confrontation.  (I’d say even higher… If I had a dollar for every time I hear of s...

Do THIS Everyday… Really?!

Listening to  night drive   - An Indie/Alternative Playlist | Vol. 1 It’s not bad it reminds me of the Secret Life of Walter Mitty. If it had an extended soundtrack it might sound something like this. One Step at a Time… Saturday we began a new intro session at the academy. We took in a handful of new students and helped them start their journey on this PeaceWalker Path. One of the things that we talk about early on is beginning to build your own personal DAILY practice. Nothing crazy or even time consuming. Just do something every day! Yes, that’s right, practice every - single - day. Don’t make it complicated, as a matter of fact, the simpler the better. Just get used to doing two things: #1 - Bring your training outside of the academy. Your real training happens outside of class, so start cultivating this perspective early on! When it comes to training how to protect yourself and becoming a PeaceWalker you begin to realize everything you do is training. ‘It’s no...
