The Rover

I’m not talking about the Zepplin song from Physical Graffiti… I’m talking about an actual dog!

So, this past weekend, I was on the front deck writing in my journal and I keep seeing this guy walking his big golden retriever.

This dog was the happiest thing ever.

It was probably like pretty much any golden retriever, or lab (a lot of dogs really, but those two are what come to mind)…

Anyway, they don’t really need much of a reason to be happy with the world.

Want to go for a walk!?

“Yea, yea, yea!! I LOVE to go for walks!!!!!!!” Wag goes the tail.

Want a treat?!

“Yea, yea, yea!! I LOVE treats!!!!!!!” Wag goes the tail.

Want to take a ride in the car?!

“Yea, yea, yea!! I LOVE to go on rides in the car!!!!!!!” Wag goes the tail.

Hello rover. I’m home.

“You’re HOME!! I LOVE it when you come home!!!” Wag goes the tail.

Toy?!

“I LOVE toys!!! Wanna play w/me?!” Wag goes the tail.

It Doesn’t Take Much Really…

Those furry critters almost always have a positive attitude. It doesn’t take much for them to find their happy place. The basics really.

We could learn a lot from their disposition.

We tend to put a lot of conditions on our attitude and state of mind.

I’ll be in a good mood if I get what I want. (at least for a minute…)

I’ll be in a good mood if things go my way. (at least for a minute…)

I’ll be in a good mood if… If… If… (at least for a minute)

With a Flip of the Switch…

When that golden sensed something he considered a threat, he perked his ears and let out a few low barks.

Once the thing of interest was distinguished as something other than a threat, the golden immediately went back to it’s joyful, happy go lucky self.

We Could Learn a Lot

How does this example help us to be better protectors and live happier, healthier lives?!

Simple…

We are better protectors when we have a better disposition. When we are mentally and emotional in a good spot, it’s easier to navigate conflict…

And, we’re more effective at it.

When a threat is perceived, it’s time to shift gears and get ready for action. However, once the situation has been resolved, rebounding back to a more joyful disposition is imperative to a healthier, happier, more well balanced Life.

So, what I’m telling you is, it pays to be more like rover.

Simple, not easy!

How Can You Achieve This?!

Simple.

Train. (In the right way of course)
