Kill Your 'Worry Hamster'

I woke up about 4:30am anxious...

You ever do that?

Seems I was worried about all if it!

My bills...
My finances (to actually pay my bills!)...
My travels...
Getting this Summit registration launched...
The academy...
The price of real estate...
If I somehow pissed somebody off...
Why one of my fb posts didn't get enough 'likes'...
My future...
Global warming....

Stooooooooooooooop Already!

I don't know where that all came from, but I know it didn't stem from any one of those things specifically!

The Worry Hamster in my head just went wild in his little wheel...

Around and around.... and around... and around!

Here's the Question...

When you're in a state like that how do you think you deal with conflict?

Better or worse?

Of course you know the answer!

If you let that Worry Hamster rule you you're not only going to be a wreck...

You're probably going to wreck anything in your path too!

How would you like to pulled over by a cop in this state!?

No thanks!

How to Get a Grip...

Oh, yes, for reasons unknown to me I had slipped out of Baseline...

Although I had an idea, I didn't know exactly why.

Now if it had been One Thing Bothering me, it may have been that that was it. Fix that problem and voila, problem solved, anxiety reduced!

However... When there is a laundry list of things, that's an indication that there's something else going on.

I realize that there can be levels of this type of anxiety that may be deeper issues, but in this case I believe it stemmed from some work stress of deadlines and a couple 'random' things happening beyond my control that although were simple things, they started the wheels turning, so to speak.

It Begins w/a Choice...

Once you realize you are in this state, you have TWO CHOICES...

1) Keep spinning.
2) Realize you're spinning and do things to STOP Spinning!

Option #2 might look something like this:

STOP!! Slow your mind down by taking a few breaths and relax. Don't think of anything... Least of all solutions... This often just keeps your mind reeling, trying to figure things out, but what usually happens, it's a TRAP that our minds use to keep us stuck going in circles, not really coming to any healthy conclusions... rather, only more spinning and anxiety!

Remember that the negative things are typically much Bigger in Your Mind!

If things get really extreme, you'll need something more to change your state. Exercising, going for a walk, stretching, even changing locations may help.

Do something where you aren't thinking about the problems (or solutions) for a while.

Grounding yourself in THIS MOMENT via Your Own Body, can help.

Like this:

Take a deep breath and try to focus your attention of the feel of the carpet beneath your feet, or the feel of how your clothes touch your body. Start at your feet (keep breathing...) and work up slowly to your head. Then take a few more deep 'belly' breaths to conclude the grounding.

No, the problems probably didn't go anywhere, but most likely they look a bit different!

When has life put something in front of you that you weren't able to get through!?

If you're alive (you're reading this right?!) it worked out!

Manage Your Anxiety...

The better you are able to manage this wonderful mind & body of yours the easier it will be to manage those conflicts you come across.

It's difficult, if not impossible to have a chance at controlling a situation if you can't even control yourself

If You Want to Find Out...

About that Summit I was stressing about...

Have a great Hamster Free Day!!

All the best,
~Craig
