Between Grateful & Change

 The World Doesn't Owe You...

One of the things that really has me thinking right now is this idea of thankfulness, change and leaving the world better than you found it, even in a small way...

In the U.S. we have abundance. We are one of the most fortunate countries in the world. Arguably, our population lives better than over 95% of the rest of the world.

Now, I know some of you are out there thinking, WTF Craig, there are homeless people, there are people who don't have healthcare, there are people who are abused, discriminated against, there are people who are illiterate, jobless and poor, here in the States!

You are absolutely correct...

Although we live in one of the richest countries in the world, we still have our problems. Our dirty laundry. Our dark secrets. Things we are ashamed of or should be...

Yes, we are far from perfect. We are human. We have room to grow. Room to improve. Room to learn.

But, Don't Forget...

Some of us forget and begin to feel a sense of entitlement, as if the world owes us something. And if we don't get what we want, our request becomes a demand.

From small to large many believe we are owed... Even if we haven't tried, contributed or worked for anything. Too many feel they are still somehow owed.

How things aren't fair...

When did life say to you that it was fair?

When did it say that it was supposed to be?

Don't forget...

We have it really good and yet it can still be better.

Don't forget...

We can be thankful for what we DO HAVE, rather than think it is somehow owed to us.

Don't forget...

While we are being thankful for the good (however small), we can still be working toward making the things better.

Don't forget...

How good we have it in comparison to so many other places.

Think it's so bad here?! Drop yourself off in one of these countries where being in the wrong group equals interment camps and death.

Where speaking your mind can be a good reason to be arrested, stoned or hung.

Where poor equals starving to death, because the government and population can barely feed themselves let alone someone who is struggling even worse than everyone else.

Places where clean water is a luxury.

Places where women can't drive or go to school.

Places where kids can't play outside in fields in fear of unmarked landmines.

There is a lot of bad out there...

Yes, there's a lot of wrong here in the States to right...

But...

Realizing that places much worse than ours are more the norm may help keep things in perspectives.

Don't let yourself develop an...

Entitlement Complex...
